Capacitación en Pilotaje de Drones fortalece la Gran Selva Maya

Drone Piloting Training Strengthens the Great Mayan Jungle

The Great Mayan Forest is at the forefront of conservation thanks to the integration of innovative tools such as drone monitoring.

The professionalization of drone-trained personnel marks the beginning of a new era for environmental protection in the region.

Collaboration network for environmental monitoring

The Great Mayan Forest is advancing into a new era in the preservation of its ecosystems thanks to the integration of cutting-edge technology into its monitoring practices.

The recent drone pilot training course, promoted by the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in partnership with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), marks a step forward in the professionalization of personnel responsible for environmental protection in Mexico and Guatemala.

As a result of this initiative, participants from various Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) have received specialized training in the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS).

This effort seeks to enhance technical knowledge and foster collaborative work among institutions that share the mission of safeguarding the region’s biocultural landscapes.

Advantages and applications of drones in conservation

The introduction of drones into environmental monitoring tasks has been a true revolution.

Thanks to their versatility, they allow aerial inspections to be carried out, threats such as fires or illegal logging to be identified, ecological restoration processes to be monitored, and emergency response to be optimized, all with greater safety and efficiency.

The coordinated use of these technological devices reduces risks and operating costs, making a decisive contribution to forest protection.

Joining international efforts to protect the Great Mayan Jungle

The training brought together technical staff from the Department of Petén, members of the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP) of Guatemala, and representatives from CONAP of Mexico.

This joint experience strengthens international cooperation and lays the foundation for a comprehensive conservation framework, where innovation, ongoing training, and shared commitment are key to ensuring the future of the Great Mayan Forest and its natural treasures.
